GMAX MD-01 Dual Sport Modular Motorcycle Helmet - DOT Certified (Wine Red, Small) - Perfect for Adventure Riding & Commuting

If you've ever had an older GMax helmet, you know they're great. The "Intermediate Oval" shape is what most professionals will tell you fits 90% of riders' heads. Our current GM54s are about 10 years old. So it was time for new helmets. My husband bought his in 2012 and mine for my birthday in 2013. Both were a Medium. Even after almost a decade of wearing it, it was still always a bit tight and starts to get annoying about an hour or so into my ride. I should have gotten a Large but it was my first helmet and I didn't know anything about helmet sizing or how they "wear in" which means I couldn't gauge whether or not I should have gotten the bigger size. ANYWHO, fast forward to 2022 and it's time for a new one.We check the sizing charts and determine, according to the chart, that we SHOULD be wearing a large. Then we read the reviews that say they "run small." Some say they run "a bit small" and others say "far too small." We wonder, "What the hell does that mean?" Based on reviews saying that the COMPANY says to "order a size up" we order an XL. NOPE. FAR too tight! Can barely get it on my head. So I order an XXL in the red.(Which, by the way, is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. The pics do NOT do it justice!)NOPE on the XXL. STILL too tight. After having my head in it for 5 mins I can already feel the pressure on the front of my forehead and the back of my skull. SIGH!! SO, this one is going back and 3XL it is!! It's a great helmet. I gave it the full 5 stars because the sizing doesn't have anything to do with the product. I am writing this review to give more specifics on the sizing. Not a "bit too small", not "far too small". If you've ever owned a GMax helmet in the past, order a full 2-3 sizes up from your original size! My husband calls them "Chinese sized." If you've ever ordered anything from China, you know what that means. Hell, I'd say to go a full 2-3 sizes above their chart if you've never owned one! Trust me, it will save you all the BS I've gone through. This is the 4th helmet that I've had to return. "Order a size up" my sweet fanny. Trust me. You'll thank me in the end.They are great helmets . Is my second Gmax Helmet with the light on the back. I also got the kit to make the helmet respond to bikes lights so when I break it comes on as well.I dislike the faceshield attachment. You set the faceshield full open and it immediately detaches from the helmet, right side, flopping about. The fit is great. Not too heavy and the rear light feature is great for night riding. Speaker pockets are set just right for blue tooth devices.Bought helmet because I wanted a bigger version of the one I had and it’s the same size maybe small than the one I have.Great fit looks great well made very happy with the selection I would recommend it to any of my friends and family who are looking for a helmetLove the light on the back for safety. Comfortable, and wind noise is drastically cut. Works well with Bluetooth communications.First off thank you for the fast shipping and the packaging was professional and the helmet arrive pristine.I tried it on. Took out the cheek pads because I always do, the size is perfect. The helmet has multiple air vents and is very comfortable. I love the sun shade too. The red light on the back of the helmet is a bonus feature for night riding. I am very pleased with the service and the helmet is top notch and perfect for my daily commuting.Thank you, highly recommended.Seems like a nicely made helmet, size is smallNot many offer 3xl like this one, so I tried it on my monster melon, and sure felt like my 2xl.So 4 stars for size bummer, just my opinion.
